Baby Boomers are aging and there are more seniors than ever before looking for retirement housing. Southwest Florida, with it’s beautiful beach views and sunsets, is one of the most popular places seniors are looking for age-restricted, assisted-care and memory care living. Today’s seniors are also looking for more upscale, luxury retirement living.
A Newer Concept in Retirement Living
Many retirees end up living in Community Care Retirement Centers, or CCRC. These centers require a large sum down payment or buy-in. The new concept that is emerging in Florida is rental communities for seniors. These can be age-restricted, assisted living or memory care communities. Some communities offer all three living concepts. These rentals are luxurious and upgraded. All they require to move in is a security deposit equal to one or two month’s rent. Seniors pay monthly rent and just need to give thirty to sixty days notice to be released from their lease obligation. These communities provide two to three meals a day. Two meals a day are provided to residents who are still able to cook themselves and have a full kitchen. Three meals a day are provided to those in the assisted living and memory care units. Some of the communities have restaurants, movie theaters, salons, spas, fitness centers and coffee bars. They all have resort-style pools and a variety of daily entertainment and activities.
Convenience to Area Amenities
Retirees are looking for these communities to be in close proximity to shopping and dining outside of the retirement communities. Some of these communities are within walking distance to the beach. Some of them are even close to shopping centers or malls.
These rental communities offer a variety of rental opportunities. They offer lower monthly rent prices for residents who do not need assisted living. Residents who do require assisted living will pay slightly higher rent. They also have separate, higher rental prices for residents who need more care such as memory care. The prices start for one resident and have a nominal monthly charge for the second resident if two people or spouses are living together.
The development in luxury retirement communities in Florida has steadily increased over the past few years. The reasons for seniors choosing Florida include the weather, cost of living, types of living concepts and luxurious amenities. It’s no wonder why seniors choose to retire in The Sunshine State.
